Real-Life “Freedom Writers” Star at the Weidner Center
Bellin Health LifeLines speaker Erin Gruwell portrayed by Hillary Swank in new movie
Green Bay, WI -- Jan 12, 2007 --

Today marks the Green Bay opening of “Freedom Writers”, a new movie starring Hillary Swank as teacher Erin Gruwell.  The film’s real-life star, Gruwell herself, will be appearing at the Weidner Center on February 22, 2007 as part of the Bellin Health Lifelines Series.

“Freedom Writers” is inspired by the true story of Erin Gruwell, whose passion to become a teacher was soon challenged by the effects of interracial gang warfare on her high school students.  By giving her students the respect they never had, they were able to experience a hope that they might be able to show the world that their lives matter and that they had something to say.  More information about “Freedom Writers” and Erin Gruwell’s story can be found online at www.freedomwriters.com

Erin Gruwell is the second featured speaker in the 2007 Bellin Health LifeLines Series, preceded by Mavis Leno appearing on January 17th.  Group, Educator, and Student single ticket rates are available for Erin Gruwell’s appearance.
